It includes the municipalities of Camuy, Hatillo, Arecibo, Barceloneta, Manatí, Vega Baja, Vega Alta, Dorado and Toa Alta. It covers the entire Atlantic coast of the country, where you can find beaches, caves, forests, lighthouses, lakes, historic sites, luxury hotels, sophisticated golf courses and the largest radio telescope in the world. In Arecibo you will find the precincts of the University of Puerto Rico and the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. In Barceloneta there is a study center of the Ana G. Méndez University System, where the International School of Design is located.
This region is known as El Karso, a topographic zone formed by carbonate rocks of sedimentary origin, formed over millions of years under the sea level or where there were large lakes. Cuevas de Camuy
It is a complex system of caves that unfolds next to one of the longest underground rivers in the world: the Camuy River. Faro and Arecibo Historical Park
Among its attractions you will find various thematic scenes about the history of Puerto Rico such as the Taíno settlement, the first inhabitants of the island before the arrival of the Spanish, replicas of three ships of the Spanish conquest and a pirate ship, the Barracks of Slaves , Casa Jíbara, a 1964 helicopter and a large recreational area. El Faro los Morillos, better known as the Lighthouse of Arecibo, is another important place of the Park. At the moment it houses inside several artifacts found in the bottom of the sea.
In this cave, also located in Arecibo, you will find a ladder to go down to the main area that has a cavity of about 20 feet (6 meters). Discover the stalactites, stalagmites, bats and insects characteristic of its ecosystem. At the end of the cave there is an opening in the mountain that gives a unique view to the mountains and the Rio Grande de Arecibo. From it comes the name of Cueva Ventana.
Cerro Gordo BEACH
